Welcome to this humble deli & bakery of mine. I am Jo, a chemical and process engineer
I have always liked food preparation, particularly in baking, since I was a kid. The earliest cake making I could recall was perhaps the no-bake Nestum Cake which I and my cousin prepared on one fine day when I was 7. Despite my interest in baking, it was not until I was in Form 2 when I first baked seriously. It was Rock Buns taught by the home science teacher. I am particularly fascinated by food preparation techniques and how ingredients in recipes work. I believe baking is a science than it is an art. In baking, we have formulas to stick to, reaction of ingredients to observe and we have mathematical formulas to balance. We talk about acids (e.g. cream of tartar) and alkalines (e.g. egg whites), the growth of yeast and carbon dioxide gas being released in bread making, and reaction between soda and acid for the leavening of cake. I am by
no means an expert in food and have no intention to act as a 'teacher' in
this website. This website was set up on 7th March 2003 with sharing
recipes with other homebakers as the objective. There are some visitors who have been visiting and supporting this website since it was launched. Thank you for witnessing the growth of this website. I will try my best to update the website on a regular basis. If you just found out this website, I hope you will enjoy browsing through it.
Edited on 19/9/08: I am also running a blog called Saucing Around, Jo's Deli so that I could share with you a little more about my passion and myself, than just recipes here. Please hop over!
